About Vedangam
Vedangam is named after the six Vedangas — the “limbs of the Veda”: Shiksha (phonetics), Kalpa (ritual), Vyakarana (grammar), Nirukta (etymology), Chandas (metre) and Jyotisha (astronomy and time-keeping). Jyotisha gave India the panchangam, a calendar that tracks the Sun and Moon precisely enough to schedule festivals and rituals for millennia.
Every date on this site is calculated, not copied: Sun and Moon positions come from a modern astronomical model, the sidereal zodiac uses the Lahiri ayanamsa, and the classical rules decide each festival. Hindu calendars for 2025, 2026, 2027 list every major festival, Ekadashi, Purnima, Amavasya and Sankranti. You can also read about the Vedic units of time, the Indian calendar systems and the astronomers of ancient India.
Frequently asked questions
What is today's tithi?
The panel above shows the tithi prevailing at sunrise today and the exact time it ends (IST), followed by the next tithi. Tithi end-times are the same across India; only sunrise-based timings change by city.
Which ayanamsa does Vedangam use?
All sidereal positions use the Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa, the standard adopted by the Government of India’s Calendar Reform Committee and used by most Indian panchangams.
Why do festival dates sometimes differ between calendars?
A festival is fixed by the tithi that prevails at a particular time of day — sunrise, midday, evening or midnight. When a tithi changes close to that time, different regions or traditions may observe the festival on adjacent days.
Is the panchangam available in Telugu and Hindi?
Yes. Daily panchangam pages are available in English, Telugu and Hindi, and today’s panchangam is available in ten Indian languages from the language links below.
